Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a holistic healing practice that involves gentle mobilization of the bones of the skull, spine, and pelvis.
CST is based on the idea that a rhythmic flow of cerebrospinal fluid surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. Similar to a heart beating fast when under stress, the craniosacral fluid reacts in its own way to stress or injury. The disruption in its natural rhythmic pattern will result in a weaker or more irregular pattern.
Clinically this may coincide with increased tightness and dysfunction within the muscles or connective tissue in that region or with the nerves that control that region. By using subtle touch and mobilization techniques, they can balance this flow and improve the functioning of the central nervous system. Restoring the regular pattern of the cerebrospinal fluid results in improving the flow and movement of nerve impulses and decreasing tissue tension.
