Maintaining good posture offers a variety of benefits for both physical and mental well-being.

Posture is important to:

Physical therapists use posture assessments to determine spinal alignment, leg length discrepancies, muscle weaknesses, muscle tension and tightness, and impaired muscle coordination.

Tips to improve posture:

  • Body awareness
  • Use mirrors and tactile cues
  • Strengthen weak muscles especially core muscles
  • Stretch tight muscles
  • Wear proper footwear
  • Avoid prolonged postures and positions
  • Use proper body mechanics
